Octopus Paul and Spain wins once again

Fifa world cup 2010 comes to an end with an excellent match between Spain and Netherlands with Spain finally holding its grip on the trophy..

It was a close match with both teams scoring no goals till the scheduled 90 minutes time.. With extra time of 30 minutes provided, finally Iniesta hitting the goal to bring Spain closer to the trophy after more than 110 minutes..

With ten more minutes to hold the cup in their hand, Spain defended really well, winning their first ever world cup.. It is the first time they were in world cup finals.. Netherlands lost the finals of fifa world cup the third time.. Earlier two occasions were against West Germany in 1974 and Argentina in 1978..

Earlier both teams were trying too hard to hit goals, that made their play more aggressive which resulted in more than 15 bookings in that match.. More than 30 to 40 free kicks were given to either of the teams. Both teams had a lot of attempts at the goal which either they wasted themselves due to pressure or defended by their counterparts. Cassillus took chances twice when he attempts to come forward from goal to get the ball from the Dutch leaving the goal alone but both the times he did succeed in saving the goals.

It was a disappointment to Spanish fans and Dutch fans that neither David Villa nor Sneijder hit a goal to make their tally of the world cup to 6. Hence now 4 men fit into the golden boots, one each from the 4 teams which qualified for semis.. Villa from Spain, Sneijder from Netherlands, Muller from Germany and Forlan from Uruguay..

Earlier before the match starts was the excellent closing ceremony of the fifa 2010 world cup.. Colored by lcd projected high intensity lights, the entire ground was used as if it was an erasable art-slate.. The fifa anthem, "Saaminaamina waka waka" sung by Shakeera, along with her dance welcomed everyone to the final with the broad beautiful smile from her.

Madharasapattinam- film review

Madharasapattinam..

Cast
* Arya as ElamParithi
* Amy Jackson as Amy Wilkinson (Durai amma)
* Alexx O'Nell as Robert Ellis
* Nassar as Ayyakanu
* Cochin Hanifa as Nambi

Plot
         The movie  begins more like titanic with Amy Wilkinson almost in death bed in London in present and wants to come to Chennai (or madharasapattinam) to finish an unfinished work here. With then as she comes to Chennai after more than 60 years, the changes of Chennai visualises in her eyes the old pictures and the best memories of her life that she had here earlier.. With that director Vijay takes as to the past, making us stunned to move in astonishment to see the beautiful Madharasapattinam 60 years ago..

        The movie moves with a beautiful coordination between past and the present as Amy searches for Parithi, her young age lover, in this large city of Chennai with the picture that she had taken 60 years ago. Vijay does succeed in depicting the entire character of Arya (or parithi) in his first scene in movie when he stops the empty car of Commissioner Ellis that was moving backwards in a sloppy road when they all were listening on Emy's camera for a picture thus missing to notice the car moving.. There comes our hero and stops the car only to save his donkey after which he lets the car move again.. It reveals that parithi is a valorous dhobi in madharasapattinam.

        As the movie moves, Governor of Madharasapattinam (also the father of Amy) orders the dhobis to leave their dhobikhana near then Buckingham canal as they plan to bring a golf ground in that place.. Parithi revolts against the British officials.. Amy, daughter of Madras Presidency Governor, develops an affinity towards Parithi. She is friendly and helpful. Sequence of events leaves romance blossoming between them. Parithi calls her affectionately as Duraiamma.

       Despite they facing trouble from the angry White officials, their love blossoms beautifully on each other. There comes 15 August 1947 which brings freedom to India. Duraiamma is now forced to go back to England. Parithi runs from pillar to post and fights to hold his sweetheart’s hands. But he couldn’t achieve his mission. Cut to present, Duraiamma is back in search of Parithi. Did she realise her mission forms the climax.

The movie has wonderfully picturesqued madraspatnam, the principality of the then Madras state. The picturesque of the boat ride on the Buckingham canal, which is today the dirty Cooum was extraordinary.

The song Vaama Duraiamma is very beautiful and it shows the wonders of nature in our motherlands like Elephant's blessing and snake's dance, etc. The way in which the song "Pookkal pookkum dharunam" begins is really superb. Many other songs were also touching our souls and makes to feel us inside the characters. The climax was wonderful as the director lets us see from Amy's eyes as she is about to die.

Overall, the movie is an excellent love movie.. According to Rediff review It would be another landmark in the history of Indian cinema after Slumdog Millionaire in showcasing Indian films and culture to the world. Madrasapattinam transcends the language boundaries and takes Tamil cinema to the world arena.

PS:
            It wouldn't be nice to mention the excellent participation of the late Cochin Haneefa as nambi, a brahmin translator to the Governor's daughter. Hats off to him. Though he dies, his excellent dedicated work to art will live with us forever.

Muller, Diego Forlan join top scorers as Germany pip Uruguay for bronze

Thomas Muller and Diego Forlan became five-goal joint top scorers at the 2010 World Cup finals as Germany beat Uruguay 3-2 in the tournament's third-place play-off. It was the third time, a record, that Germany have finished third; it was also a record third play-off defeat for the South Americans.

An entertaining game despite the driving rain saw Germany exerting the early pressure. A Mesut Ozil corner was headed against the bar by Arne Friedrich in the ninth minute before Muller scored in th 20th after keeper Fernando Muslera had spilled a swerving 35-metre drive from Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The 20-year-old from Bayern Munich had been recalled to the German attack after being suspended for their semi-final defeat by Spain; his return only balanced, however, the absence of club-mate Miroslav Klose after injury and illness. Klose thus missed the chance of the two goal which would have seen him surpass Brazil's 15-goal Ronaldo as the World Cup's overall leading marksman.
Schweinsteiger had an unwitting hand in the Uruguayan equaliser in the 27th minute when he was  caught in possession in midfield by Alvaro Pereira and the ball was swiftlty moved on by Luis Suarez for Edinson Cavani to score.
Return pass
Uruguay even took the lead five minutes into the second half when Egidio Arevalo took a return pass from Suarez and crossed from the right for Forlan to volley spectacularly past keeper Hans-Jorg Butt. This was also Forlan's fifth goal of the tournament and he and Muller were thus now on level terms with Spain's David Villa and Holland's Wesley Sneijder.
The advantage lasted only five minutes. Then Jerome Boateng slung over a right-wing cross at which Muslera flapped ineffectually so Marcell Jansen, almost to his own surprise, could head home.
Uruguay, last South American survivors in the finals, went close to regaining the lead through Suarez only to be foiled by Butt whose reflexes thus paved the way for Germany to launch yet another counter-attack and grab the winner. Sami Khedira nodded home from close range after Uruguay failed suicidally to clear a right-wing corner.
The Celeste surged forward in desperate pursuit of an equaliser of their own in stoppage time but were out of luck when Forlan's last-kick ricocheted away off the top of Butt's crossbar
But it was really a great match between the two teams. Muller and Forlan will extend their toes to golden boot if both villa and Sneijder dont shoot any goals today.
PS:                                                                                                                            Shakira is going to perform for the final ceremony going to start in another five minutes with her waka-waka song.. I am going now.. Bye.. Shakiraaaaaaaa... ;)
